Placement Tests

Mathematics

Before registering for courses at Winthrop, many students are required to take a Mathematics Placement Exam (MPE) designed to determine which class is appropriate for your current mathematical skill and intended major.

Before you complete the process for scheduling the MPE, please register for an Orientation session (new students only) and review the information on the Mathematics Department website.

Language

Vist the Department of World Languages website for the latest information on placement tests in French, German, and Spanish.   These tests should be taken by students who have had a language in high school and/or are required to take a foreign language as part of their major requirements.

Chemistry

Students who wish to take CHEM 105, General Chemistry I, must take a placement test before they can register unless they take CHEM 104, Chemistry Problem-Solving and Fundamentals.  Please visit the Chemistry Department website for more information.
