Presidential Search

Statement of Confidentiality

As a member of the Winthrop University Board of Trustees, Search and Selection Committee (SSC), or staff assigned to assist in the search for the tenth President of Winthrop University and the resulting access I will have access to confidential information and materials related to the presidential search, and with full knowledge of the critical importance of the principle of confidentiality to the integrity and success of the search process, I hereby agree:

a. To recognize and accept my responsibility to protect the confidentiality of every prospect, candidate, associated university search strategies, and the process itself.

b. That the deliberations of the Search and Selection Committee and/or the Board and any and all information, whether verbal or in the form of papers, books, files, documents, electronic communications, or in any other form or format, which comes into my possession or knowledge as it relates to the presidential search is confidential.

c. That I will not in any form or manner, directly or indirectly, divulge, disclose, or communicate such confidential information to any person, firm, corporation, or other entity, other than a Search and Selection Committee member or a person otherwise designated by the Chairperson of the Search and Selection Committee, Kathy Bigham, or by Mr. Dalton Floyd, the chair of the Board of Trustees, to receive such confidential information.

d. That all contacts with the media, and any contact with other third parties in which confidential information will be disclosed, shall be conducted solely by, or with the specific prior authorization of the Chairperson of the SSC, Kathy Bigham, or the Chair of the Board, Mr. Dalton Floyd.

e. That the obligation to maintain confidentiality exists both during the period that the search is active and at any and all times thereafter. The retention and disposition of search records shall be in compliance with institutional, state, and EEOC guidelines and in a manner which retains candidate confidentiality.

f. That I may be removed from the Search and Selection Committee if I breach any of these confidentiality obligations. I understand that, even if removed, these confidentiality obligations still apply.
