The question posed about assessing and enhancing the work life experience at Winthrop is currently being addressed in two key ways:
- First, Winthrop is enrolling in the Great Colleges to Work For free survey program provided by the Chronicle of Higher Education. This free confidential survey will allow faculty and staff to share their opinions of our campus work environment. Questions will address collaborative governance, compensation and benefits, confidence in senior leadership, job satisfaction, diversity, respect and appreciation, teaching environment, and work-life balance, among others. Survey results will be used to make needed improvements in each of the areas. As the start time for the survey draws closer, a reminder and how-to instructions will be provided to access the survey.
- Second, efforts are underway to form a staff assembly that will provide a forum for communication, fellowship, community, and a voice in matters of importance and concern to the staff. The Office of Human Resources scheduled two meetings in November 2013 for staff to look at and assess models of governance and to answer questions about the organization and development of the staff assembly. The model chosen by staff vote in December was for a representative staff assembly group that allows non-voting eligible staff to attend the meetings. In January the Office of Human Resources will host meetings to determine how the staff assembly representatives will be chosen/elected.
