The question posed about assessing and enhancing the work life experience at Winthrop is currently being addressed in two key ways:
- First, Winthrop enrolled in the Great Colleges to Work For free survey program provided by the Chronicle of Higher Education. This free confidential survey allows faculty and staff to share their opinions of our campus work environment. In March and April, 2014, a total of 600 randomly selected employees were surveyed for responses to questions that addressed collaborative governance, compensation and benefits, confidence in senior leadership, job satisfaction, diversity, respect and appreciation, teaching environment, and work-life balance, among others. Survey results will be available in the summer of 2014 and will be used to make needed improvements in each of the areas.
- Second, a new staff assembly has been elected and includes 13 representative staff members. The staff assembly will provide a forum for communication, fellowship, community, and a voice in matters of importance and concern to the staff. The first official meeting of the staff assembly will take place in late April 2014. Initial agenda items of the staff assembly meetings will include a systematic method for staff to provide input to staff assembly members during meetings, and the development of by-laws.
