Today, as I walked up the steps to Tillman for my first day as the President of Winthrop, I was overwhelmed with a combination of pride and humility to have the honor of leading this remarkable institution. Undoubtedly, all of you fully understand the transformative nature of the Winthrop University educational experience, as you live it daily and continually benefit from all that this uniquely wonderful place has to offer. Over the past few months, as I have come to know many of you, I have seen firsthand that Winthrop students are prepared for successful careers, engaged in our democratic society, responsive to local and global concerns, and grounded in values that give meaning to their lives. It truly excites me to see this commitment to excellence among you, our students!
As I undertake my own Winthrop experience, let me ask you to continue your good work and know that your efforts are making a difference in our campus community. I know I will meet many of you in the coming weeks and months, but to help you learn more about me until we can meet face to face, my website was launched earlier today. If you like, please take a moment to get more familiar with my husband, Larry, and me, as well as some of our plans to gain your feedback as we enter the “listening phase” of this first year.
Thank you again for your support. We are inspired every day to live up to the confidence your Board of Trustees has placed in us. Let our shared Winthrop experiences begin!
