Anthony J. and Gale N. DiGiorgio Campus Center
The Anthony J. and Gale N. DiGiorgio Campus Center began construction in Spring 2008, and opened in Fall 2010. Named by the Winthrop University Board of Trustees to honor President and Mrs. DiGiorgio for more than two decades of continuing service to Winthrop, the DiGiorgio Center provides a variety of meeting spaces for use by Winthrop’s numerous student organizations in building leadership and teamwork skills, a “smart wall” with updated campus news events, student service offices, student publications facilities, and recreational space.
Multipurpose banquet rooms for special events, a 224-seat movie theatre, conference room, the campus bookstore and post office, as well as casual dining options designed to promote interaction among all members of the campus community also are included.
The DiGiorgio Center is connected to the West Center by a distinctive open-air plaza and gathering place that helps the facilities function in tandem. To the north, a Campus Green with walkways and open grassy areas for study or play disguises an environmentally engineered surface-water drainage system for the heart of campus. Adjacent is Scholars Walk, a pedestrian promenade that extends the length of the heart of campus, culminating in the new Hardin Family Gardens.
