Melford A. Wilson, Jr., Professor of Political Science

Biography

Dr. Melford Wilson Professor Emeritus has taught Political Science at Winthrop University since 1967.  He served as department chair on two separate occasions. Dr. Wilson was Vice President for Academic Affairs from 1996 - 2003.  He was a Fulbright Professor of International Relations at Shanghai International Studies University from 1985 - 1986.  Through all of this, Dr. Wilson also managed to develop and continues to teach several upper level courses on Asia and China in the Political Science department.  Dr. Wilson is also credited for the development of the very successful Model United Nations program at Winthrop.  It is going into its 33rd year as an annual conference and political science course.

Dr. Melford Wilson received his Ph.D. in Political Science and International Relations from the School of International Service at The American University in Washington, D.C. in 1969.  He has served on the City of Rock Hill City Council and worked in the U.S. House of Representatives as a research and staff assistant.
