History:
Founded in 1976 at Manhattan College in
Riverdale (the Bronx) New York, Theta Alpha Kappa is the only
national honor society serving the needs of those involved in
the study of religion, and it currently hosts over 200 local
chapters throughout the United States. Theta Alpha Kappa is
a member of the Association of
College Honor Societies.
Winthrop QAK:
Winthrop University was granted a local branch in the Fall of
2006, and will induct the first members during the Spring
semester, 2007.
PURPOSE: Theta Alpha Kappa is
a related scholarly organization of the American Academy of
Religion, an affiliate society of the Council of
Societies for the Study of Religion.
Theta Alpha Kappa is the only national honor society
serving the needs of those involved in the study of religion
and/or theology at both the baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate
levels of higher education. Honoring excellence in these academic fields is its
primary purpose.

Requirements:

At least 3 semesters at an
institution having a local chapter in good standing
-
Minimum
of 12 semester credits in Religious Studies or Theological
Studies courses
-
GPA
of 3.5 or higher in such courses
-
GPA of
3.0 in total academic program to date
-
Ranked
in at least the upper 35% of your
class in general scholarship at time of induction
