New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation

Orientation is a program that is designed to assist new students and their families in adjusting to life as a student at Winthrop University.  The program promotes discussion among parents, new students, continuing students, and faculty and staff on the expectations and perceptions of the campus community.

Orientation for Fall Students

Freshman Orientation is a required two-day overnight program beginning at 8 a.m. on day one with scheduled activities and ending at approximately 4:30 p.m. on day two. During orientation, students are paired with an orientation leader to receive first-hand information and experiences.  Freshmen will meet other freshmen, stay in a residence hall, meet and plan their fall schedule with an academic adviser, and register for classes.

Family members are encouraged to take advantage of Family Orientation. Family Orientation occurs the first day of Freshman Orientation. Activities are planned to help parents and family members learn about campus services, meet campus administrators, and other new families.

A detailed freshman orientation schedule will be available in March 2012.

Transfer Orientation is a one-day program beginning at 8 a.m. and ending around 4:00 p.m. The session includes experiences designed to allow students to learn about resources, complete course evaluations, meet with academic advisers, and register for classes. Transfer Orientation Leaders are paired with groups of students to assist them with their transition to Winthrop University.
