Career Opportunities for Students Earning Degrees in Human
Nutrition
The
BS in Human Nutrition - Didactic Program in
Dietetics degree and the
Dietetic Internship prepare
students for positions in nutrition and dietetics, including medical
nutrition therapy, community nutrition and food systems management.
Careers for nutrition graduates may begin in a hospital, business,
skilled nursing facility, government or community service agency, or
the military. The fields of nutrition and dietetics are expanding
and experiencing changes. These changes have resulted in a demand
for qualified employees that exceeds the number of graduates.
Approximately 95% of Winthrop students who complete an accredited
dietetic internship are quickly employed in their field, and many
are being offered jobs prior to graduation.
Some students may
elect to pursue the BS in Human
Nutrition - Nutrition Science degree option. Graduates with this degree option often choose to
further their education in pursuit of a professional degree.
Upon completion of the program students meet or exceed academic
requirements for further study in medicine, dentistry, physical
therapy, and physician's assistant and pharmacy programs. This
degree is designed to provide a strong foundation in the natural
sciences, math, and humanities and social sciences for those wanting
to apply to medical school or dental school. The degree also
requires coursework in the chemical and biological sciences for
those interested in applying to pharmacy school.

Still other students
may be interested in the BS in
Human Nutrition - Food Systems Management option. Students completing this program are prepared for
entry-level positions in food systems administration. Career
opportunities are available in both institutional and commercial
food service settings. Graduates are recruited by food systems
management companies. Sales positions with food and equipment
companies offer additional career opportunities.
