I am applying as a New Start applicant. Are the admissions requirements different for New Start transfers?
New Start is a service program for students age 25 years or older that provides information and assistance to students from the application stage to commencement. If you have completed fewer than 30 hours, you must submit an official copy of your final high school transcript as well as official transcripts from all colleges attended. If you have completed 30 or more hours, you are required to submit transcripts from all colleges attended. A cumulative GPA of 2.0 (4.0 scale) is required for admission.
In general, New Start transfers must meet the same GPA requirements as traditional transfers. Factors such as time elapsed since the last college enrollment will be considered, but a New Start transfer applicant whose GPA is significantly below 2.0 can not be offered admission to Winthrop.
If I attended more than one college, which GPA will you use?
Official transcripts are needed from each college you have attended. We will divide the grade points by the grade hours earned at all colleges you have attended to calculate your cumulative GPA.
Do courses that won't transfer to Winthrop count toward my 30 hours?
All courses that you have completed at another college will count toward your 30 credit hours, regardless of whether the courses will transfer to Winthrop or not.
Who decides which of my courses will transfer?
The evaluation of transfer credit is conducted in the student services office of each academic area. Upon admission, the applicants' transcripts are forwarded to the appropriate office, and students can view their transfer credit online via Wingspan, the student information portal.
If you are transferring from a technical college in South Carolina, many courses have been pre-approved for transfer credit. Please refer to the Winthrop University/South Carolina Technical College Transfer Articulation Guide for additional information.
I want to change my major. Do I have to start over completely?
The courses that you have already completed might fulfill some of the requirements for the new major, or they might count as elective credit. It is best to discuss this with the student academic services office in the college of your new major.
What is the maximum number of credits I can transfer to Winthrop?
Only 65 hours can be transferred from a two-year college. Students who have completed course work in general studies programs are permitted to transfer only 15 hours of selected courses from such programs into any curriculum at Winthrop
I work during the day. What classes are available in the evening?

Winthrop's schedule of courses is available on-line. Visit Wingspan and click on "Schedule of Courses" to look up individual classes. You may also wish to check out the Course Offerings Directory to conduct more detailed searches.
Can I complete my degree through evening classes only?

I only want to attend classes part time. Is there a different application process?
