West Center Honored for Interior Design Excellence
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop University’s Lois Rhame West Health, Physical Education and Wellness Center has been selected for publication in Penton Media’s American School & University® 2008 Educational Interiors Showcase. The annual showcase competition honors educational interior design excellence and spotlights projects representing some of the most effective learning environments in America. The West center will be featured in the August 2008 edition of the magazine.
The center, which opened in August 2007, was designed by the FWA Group, Architects of Charlotte, N.C. The university’s Facilities Design and Development Office assisted with interior design. At 137,000 square feet, the $27 million West Center is the largest building on Winthrop's main campus and houses academic space for Winthrop’s health, physical education and sport management programs, as well as wellness facilities for the campus community.
A jury of American Institute of Architects members and education administrators evaluated submissions from architectural firms, schools and universities across the country. One hundred nine projects were chosen for publication in AS&U, a monthly educational facilities, purchasing and business administration magazine for facility planners, school and university administrators and architects. This is the 18th year the competition has been held.
Founded in 1928, American School & University is devoted exclusively to education facilities/business administration.
