Twenty Years for Undergraduate Juried Exhibition

– Winthrop University Galleries celebrates its 20th
year for the Annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition with a Gala
Spring Reception on Friday, April 11, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
That evening, the 20th Annual
Undergraduate Juried Exhibition will be found
in the Rutledge Gallery; the M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition of Erica
Shaver will be in the Elizabeth Dunlap Patrick Gallery; and the
M.F.A. Works in Progress Exhibition in the Edmund D. Lewandowski
Student Gallery will feature works by M.F.A. candidates Natalie
Bork, Charlotte Zweber Chavis, Joshua Cornwell, Beth Melton and
Jon Prichard.
Daniel P. Gottlieb, the director of
planning and design at the North Carolina Museum of Art,
will be this year’s distinguished juror for the annual
undergraduate exhibition. Gottlieb holds a
Master of Arts in arts
administration from
Winthrop and has 27 years of experience in museum design
and management. He is currently directing the NCMA building
expansion and development of the 164-acre
Museum Park.
Gottlieb will select an exhibition of
student-artists' work from a variety
of disciplines including painting, drawing, sculpture,
jewelry/metals, photography, ceramics, illustration,
printmaking, graphic design and interior design. The exhibition
will continue through June 19, 2008.
In the Elizabeth Dunlap Patrick Gallery,
the jewelry of Erica Shaver will provide a glimpse into her
M.F.A. thesis and the years she has spent at Winthrop growing
into a mature artist. Shaver will
present a lecture about her work April 23 at 7 p.m. in Rutledge
Auditorium. The exhibition will continue through June 19, 2008.
All exhibitions, presentations and
receptions are open and free to the public. Winthrop University
Galleries is located in the Rutledge Building (1898 Alumni
Drive) and McLaurin Hall (1896 Alumni Drive) on the campus of
Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. Gallery hours are Monday
– Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed weekends. For more
