"Remnants of Desire" Opens During Family Weekend 2008

Bailey Robinson and Darryl LaPlante star in "Remnants of Desire."
Written by well-known Rock Hill playwright and Winthrop Theatre faculty
member
Terry Roueche, the play tells the story of two struggling people
who find hope in each other: Kelly (portrayed by Bailey Robinson of
Kannapolis, N.C.), a writer, and Franklin (portrayed by Darryl
LaPlante of Goose Creek), a recovering drug and alcohol addict. Both
Kelly and Franklin face individual temptations, but together they
discover the possibility of redemption.
This production is a play with a universal message of hope,
according to Winthrop Instructor
Russell Luke, play director.
“‘Remnants of Desire’ is a play that can speak to both men
and women and (reaches) across generational lines. It looks at the
subjects of addiction, depression and relationships with both humor
and seriousness that will not make light of the subjects but will
not alienate the audience,” Luke said. “While there is a struggle
during the play, we end with a feeling that we have hope.”
The cast includes Jamie Bellah (Elaine) of Charleston, Jackie
Hogg (Anne) of Rock Hill, David Hutto Jr. (Charles) of Orangeburg
and Cate Davidson (Marsha) of Little Rock, Ark. On the
artistic/production staff are faculty members Luke, director;
Biff Edge, set designer;
Anna Sartin, lighting designer; and
Janet Gray, costume designer; and students Shannon Plowden of
West Union, stage manager, and Caitlin Colyer of Oxford, Ohio,
assistant stage manager.
The production is a special part of Winthrop’s
