ROCK HILL, S.C. - With an easy 93-52 win over Liberty in the first round of the 2006 Advance Auto Parts Big South Conference Championship on Tuesday night, Winthrop advances to play No. 5 seed High Point in a semifinal game Thursday.
As the regular season champion of men's basketball, Winthrop (21-7) is seeded No. 1 in the tournament and enjoys a home court advantage.
Thursday’s tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Winthrop Coliseum. The second semifinal will match up No. 6 seed Charleston Southern and No. 2 Coastal Carolina at 9 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on ESPNU and streamed live as part of the Big South Edge.

The winners of the Thursday games play Saturday for the Big South Championship. The champion will receive an automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA tournament, which starts March 16.
On Tuesday, Winthrop placed seven players in double figures in the win against No. 8 seed Liberty. The 41-point margin is the largest spread in a Big South Conference quarterfinal game.
Winthrop opened an early 15-point lead as junior center Craig Bradshaw led an Eagle attack that opened the game with a 17-2 run in the first eight minutes of play.
