ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop University’s Department of Music will share its band talents with the Rock Hill community during a "Concert on the Lawn" on Sept. 24 in front of Byrnes Auditorium.
This is an outdoor program of compositions for the wind band intended to be reminiscent of the community and professional band concerts of the early 1900s. The concert starts at 6 p.m.
Members of the Winthrop University Concert Bands will play a mixture of marches, jazz, folk songs and patriotic pieces by John Philip Sousa, George Gershwin and others. Winthrop faculty members John Fowler, Michael Hough and Sarita Maxwell will be featured soloists.
Conductor Lorrie Crochet, assistant professor in music and assistant director of bands, hopes that the concert will bring Winthrop and the surrounding communities together. Jason Holden is her graduate assistant.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics. The concert is free and open to the public.
