ROCK HILL, S.C. - More than 200 families are expected to visit their students on the Winthrop University campus during Family Weekend on Oct. 2-3.
The third annual event offers faculty lectures, meetings with university administrators, entertainment and a picnic to give parents a taste of what it is like to attend Winthrop, according to Kema Gadson, program director for New Students and Parent Programs.
Families can see performances of the play “You Can’t Take It With You” in Johnson Hall or a medley of songs by soloist Sheria Rashawn in Barnes Recital Hall on Friday.
On Saturday, there is a presentation by President Anthony DiGiorgio; a tour of the College of Business Administration’s new building, Carroll Hall; faculty sessions on technology, communications, financial aid, critical thinking and the theater; a barbecue picnic on the Byrnes Auditorium lawn; a volleyball game; and a performance by a Beatles tribute band.
The cost is $25 for the first two participants, and a reduced cost for others. Family weekend T-shirts also are for sale for $10. Reservations are due ASAP.
