Student Attacked in Residence Hall Room

Quick Facts

Campus Police are looking for a man who entered a female student's Wofford Hall room about 4 a.m. Dec. 3.

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop University’s Campus Police are looking for a young man who entered into a female student’s unlocked residence hall room early Sunday morning.

The 18-year-old victim told police she woke up around 4 a.m. Dec. 3 when the man placed his hand over her mouth and stated he had a knife. As the victim screamed, the two struggled on her bed. The young man, who is described as a black male about 5-foot-9 and weighing about 145 pounds, fled from the Wofford Hall room.

Campus Police believe this incident may be related to a previous incident involving a young man entering an unlocked house near the university’s campus. The university is stepping up patrols on campus and in nearby neighborhoods where students reside.

Students are urged to use precaution as they move about the campus and to lock their residence hall doors. For more information, call Campus Police at 803/323-3333.
