ROCK HILL, S.C. - Steve Massey, fire safety technician in Facilities Management’s Environmental Health and Safety department, passed away July 23 at his home.
He started work at Winthrop in Public Safety in 1998 and moved to Facilities Management in 2000. He received his 10-year service pin at the April 28 Faculty/Staff/Retirees ceremony.

He also checked each building’s exit signs and emergency lights and maintained Facilities Management’s first aid kits. As the liaison with the state fire marshal and fire extinguisher and sprinkler contractors, Massey accompanied those representatives when they made on-campus inspections.
The Northwestern High School graduate also served in the U.S. Army from 1982-1998.

Massey, both of the home; four sisters, Shirley (Charles) Massey of Landover, Md., Debra Pratt of Rock Hill, Robbie (Bruce) Hodge of Gaithersburg, Md., and Janae M. (Brian) Davidson of Dayton, Ohio; and three brothers, Lonnie Pratt of Capital Heights, Md., Cornelius Pratt of Laurenton, N.Y., and Alan (Rosezenna) Boger of Rock Hill.
