Emergency Alert System to Be Tested on July 8 and 10

Quick Facts

Winthrop officials will work with the York County Emergency Management Office on July 8 to test the university siren system.
A second test on July 10 will test voice capabilities.

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop University will test its campus emergency-alert siren system on July 8, minutes after York County Emergency Management Office will test the county’s siren system. The first horns will sound from Tillman Tower at approximately 11:50 a.m.

In addition, Winthrop will conduct a second test at 11:50 a.m. on July 10 to experiment with the voice capabilities of the emergency-alert system. Officials want to see if the university can make announcements through the system, so they will be listening for volume and whether the messages are intelligible from various locations on campus.

For more information, contact Campus Police Chief Frank Zebedis at 803/323-3333.
