Student Production Highlights Single-Parent Household

ROCK HILL, S.C. - An all-female cast at Winthrop University will bring to life in February "The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds," an autobiographical drama based on playwright Paul Zindel’s childhood.

The student production will be staged at 8 p.m. Feb. 7-10 and at 2 p.m. on Feb. 11, all in Johnson Studio Theatre.

Dannielle M. Reid, a theatre major from Mount Pleasant, S.C., is the director for the drama about a low-income, single-parent household. The mother, two children and an old woman living in an old vegetable shop survive each day, struggling to preserve their dignity and affirm their love along the way.

Cast members are theatre students Julie Hammond, Cate Davison, Jessica Francis, Lizzy Laforgia and Luna Burgess.

Tickets for Feb. 7 and 8 are $5 with a Winthrop I.D. and $10 general admission and for Feb. 9-11 are $8 with Winthrop I.D. and $15 general admission.
