ROCK HILL, S.C. - Two Winthrop professors will work with Provident Community Bank to install a mural for the city of Simpsonville, S.C.
The low-relief mural will be made from power-coated cut aluminum forms that will be attached to a wall, located next door to the Simpsonville Banking Center. The work, titled "Balancing Act," will contain references to Simpsonville’s history ties to transportation, the textile industry, a blacksmith tradition and its Native American heritage.
The artists are Tom Stanley, director of the Winthrop University Galleries, and Shaun Cassidy, associate professor of sculpture. They describe the overall design as whimsical with a playful nature that is intended to give audiences a new distinctive destination within the downtown environment.
The expected date of installation and unveiling of the mural will be in March.
Lud Vaughn, chief operating officer for Provident, said the public art project will add character and charm to downtown Simpsonville.
