ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop University’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously Friday to extend President Anthony DiGiorgio’s contract to 2013. The resolution adds an additional year to DiGiorgio’s current rolling contract, which would have expired June 30, 2012.
Also at the quarterly board meeting held by conference call, board members voted unanimously to give DiGiorgio the highest available rating of “exceeds expectations” during his formal evaluation. Their recommendation will go to the State Agency Head Salary Commission, which will forward a salary increase recommendation to the State Budget and Control Board. This year’s rating reflects those given DiGiorgio over several previous years, which resulted in the State Agency Head Salary Commission increasing his salary to $157,380.
Board Chair Karl Folkens noted that individual board members’ evaluation comments were very positive. DiGiorgio’s leadership and vision for the campus continues to impress board members and others around the state, the chairman said.
DiGiorgio will begin his 19th year at Winthrop in July, and is the longest-serving public university president in South Carolina.
