Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rainbow PUSH Coalition to Visit Winthrop on Sept. 16

 The Rainbow PUSH Coalition and the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. will visit Rock Hill and surrounding areas Sept. 15-19.
 The visits will be part of the Voter Education Tour for Jobs, Peace and Justice.

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr. and Rainbow PUSH Coalition will visit Rock Hill and a dozen other Carolina cities between Sept.15-19 to register and energize new and existing voters. The purpose of the Voter Education Tour for Jobs, Peace and Justice is to inform and inspire citizens to get involved in the way government works.
 
The non-partisan tour will begin in Spartanburg on Saturday, Sept. 15, continue to Charlotte, Rock Hill and Simpsonville on Sept. 16, visit Clemson, Greenville and Greenwood on Monday, Sept. 17, continue to Columbia, Orangeburg, Charleston on Sept. 18, ending on Sept. 19 with stops in Sumter and Aiken.

Jackson will speak at 3 p.m. at Tillman Auditorium on the Winthrop University campus. Hosting the event will be Winthrop’s chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The event is free and open to the public.

South Carolina’s Republican primary on Jan. 19 and Democratic primary on Jan. 29 puts the state in the national spotlight to help elect a new president. PUSH Coalition organizers want to call attention to important issues such as voter apathy, jobs, parental involvement in education, access to technology, energy independence, the environment and other topics.
