ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop University’s Department of Music will share its band talents with the Rock Hill community during a “Concert on the Lawn” on Sept. 23 in front of Byrnes Auditorium.
This is an outdoor program of compositions for the wind band and is intended to be reminiscent of the community and professional band concerts of the early 1900s. The concert starts at 6 p.m.
Members of the Winthrop University Symphonic Band will play a mixture of marches, musical medleys, folk songs and patriotic music by Henry Fillmore, Meredith Willson, Herbert L. Clarke and others. Winthrop faculty members John Fowler, assistant professor of voice, and Mark Dulin, trumpet instructor, will be featured soloists.
Conductor Lorrie Crochet, assistant professor in music and assistant director of bands, hopes that the concert will bring Winthrop and the surrounding communities together. Patrick Box is her graduate assistant.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics. The rain date is Sept. 30.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Department of Music at 803-323-2255.
