Winthrop Shares Holiday Music with Community on Dec. 3

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop University will host the annual Festival of Carols, a cherished Winthrop tradition for the Rock Hill community, on Dec. 3.

The Festival of Carols will begin with outdoor caroling by the Winthrop Glee Club and a tree-lighting with President Anthony DiGiorgio in front of Tillman Hall at 6:30 p.m. Participants are asked to follow the Glee Club, conducted by Randall Imler, to the front lawn of Byrnes Auditorium. An indoor concert will follow in Byrnes hosted by the Department of Music, beginning at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

Singing at the indoor concert will be musical groups, who will perform traditional and nontraditional Christmas songs. The audience will enjoy performances by the Winthrop Chorale, Association of Ebonites and the Winthrop Brass Ensemble, in addition to the York County Choral Society, Rock Hill School District Three Honors Choir and choral groups from Rock Hill and South Pointe high schools.

Also, Jerry Helton and Jennifer McDaniel will give solo vocal performances during the hour-long concert.

The audience will be asked to sing along in some favorite Christmas carols, including “Joy to the World!” and “O Little Town of Bethlehem.”
