ROCK HILL, S.C. - World-renowned pianist Walter Hautzig will return to Winthrop University June 28 through July 3 to teach his 40th annual Piano Master Class.
This summer will be Hautzig's 19th year at Winthrop. The Hautzig master class is open to students from junior high and middle school through college, as well as to teachers and performers. Hautzig’s master classes have drawn nearly 1,000 pianists from throughout the world to participate in private lessons, master classes, lectures and concerts. In addition, Hautzig’s recordings with Americus, Connoisseur Society, RCA and Vox Records are continuously among the national bestsellers in classical piano music.
Recitals during the master class include the opening recital June 28 by Hautzig with works of Bach, Brahms and Chopin. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Barnes Recital Hall. Tickets will be available at the door. They are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
Eugene Barban, director of the master class and a retired professor of music at Winthrop, will give a recital on June 29 with selections by Liszt, Barber, Ravel, Henselt and others. On June 30, there will be a recital by Matthew Manwarren of the Winthrop music faculty. Both recitals begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Barnes Recital Hall and are free of charge.
