Founders Federal Credit Union
will donate ballistic, or bulletproof, vests to the
Winthrop University Campus Police
and to law enforcement agencies in surrounding areas.
Founders plans to donate one ballistic vest to local law enforcement agencies in York, Lancaster, Laurens, Spartanburg, Cherokee and Chester counties in South Carolina and Mecklenburg County in North Carolina.
Donated vests will be given to a local officer in need. Winthrop anticipates hiring an officer in August, which will be given the vest, according to Chief Frank Zebedis. Ballistic vests must be replaced every five years due to normal wear and tear and stricter law enforcement codes.
“We are excited to donate these vests to such deserving individuals,” said Bruce Brumfield, president and CEO of Founders. “We’re proud to support our local law enforcement agencies and give back a small portion of what they have given to our communities.”
