Senior Choreography Showcase Run Opens Dec. 5

Dance majors rehearse for the Senior Choreography Showcase.

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop’s Department of Theatre and Dance students will present the Senior Choreography Showcase on Dec. 5 at 8 p.m., Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Theatre.

The annual event will spotlight 12 modern/contemporary student-choreographed, student-performed dance pieces, with three choreographers collaborating with student lighting designers.

The Choreography Showcase will features pieces choreographed by April Blem (Hebron, Md.); Lauren Bohn (Rock Hill); Matthew Brown (Conway, S.C.); Stephanie Cantrell (Mill Spring, N.C.); Evan Curl (Florence, S.C.); Jamie Drye (Concord, N.C.); Heather Mielke (Myrtle Beach, S.C.); Kathy Morton (Edgemoor, S.C.); Sara Zimmerman (Columbia); Randy Snight (Silver Spring, Md.); Emilie Sons (Seneca, S.C.); and Sarah Wannamaker (Chesapeake, Va.).

Instructor of Dance Meg Griffin, artistic director for the Senior Choreography Showcase, said the event is “shaping into a very exciting showcase of the many different personalities and dance styles of the 12 senior dance majors.”

“Audiences will be sure to find something they like in this evening of contemporary dance pieces,” added Griffin.

Dance and theatre student crew members include Cayci Andrews, stage manager, and Caitlin Colyer, assistant stage manager. Drye, Kyra Warren, Michael Blanton and Melanie Edwards are running crew members. Faculty members on the lighting/sound staff are Anna Sartin, lighting design; Biff Edge, sound/tech crew supervisor; and Griffin, artistic director.

The Senior Choreography Showcase is listed as part of Rock Hill’s Christmasville. Showcase tickets are $8 with Winthrop I.D. and $15 for the general public. Seating is reserved.
