English Department to Hold Ninth Annual Research Conference

 Several free events and presentations are scheduled as part of the conference.
 Instructor of English Bryan Ghent ‘05 will read from Scott Ely’s recently published novel, and students will read their poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction. Ely, an associate professor of English, passed away in October 2013.
 Scott Douglass, editor of Main Street Rag, will speak about publishing creative work and read from his recent collection of poetry.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop University’s Department of English will host its Ninth Annual Graduate/Undergraduate Research Conference March 6-7.

Several free events and presentations are scheduled as part of the conference. Events are as follows:

  • Thursday, March 6
    11 a.m.-noon
    222 DiGiorgio Campus Center
    Free cultural event
    “Publishing Your Poetry and Fiction:” Scott Douglass, editor of Main Street Rag, will speak about publishing creative work and read from his recent collection of poetry.
  • Friday, March 7
    3-5:30 p.m.
    DiGiorgio Campus Center lobby
    Literary Society book sale and student poster presentations
     
  • 5:30-6:30 p.m.
    Dina’s Place, DiGiorgio Campus Center
    Free cultural event
    Creative writing showcase by faculty and students. Instructor of English Bryan Ghent ‘05 will read from Scott Ely’s recently published novel, and students will read their poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction. Ely, an associate professor of English, passed away in October 2013.
  • Saturday, March 8
    9:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
    MacFeat House
    Students will present their original critical essays. Keynote address by Distinguished Professor of English William Naufftus: "Sir George Otto Trevelyan in India, or Are White Males a Bad Idea?"
