Winthrop’s Comstock Says ‘Zipstream’ to help Attract, Engage Students and Faculty

Quick Facts

Named Zipstream, the service will provide internet speeds of 1,000 megabits per second (mbps) – or one Gigabit – to downtown Rock Hill by this summer, and will be offered to new businesses and residents of the Bleachery area as it is developed.
Zipstream will become the technological foundation for Knowledge Park, the economic development plan that envisions knitting together Rock Hill’s historic Old Town area, new development Old Town East, and the redevelopment of the Bleachery property by master developer Sora-Phelps into a recognized hub for recruiting, launching, and growing high-impact technology businesses.

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Comporium Communications announced today that it has begun the design of a new, state-of-the-art fiber-optic network that will provide ultra-fast internet service to Rock Hill’s “Knowledge Park.”

“Every day I’m more and more convinced that Knowledge Park is our shared future. Zipstream is leading-edge technology that will not only help attract and engage students and faculty, but also enable exciting research and teaching projects,” said Winthrop President Jayne Marie (Jamie) Comstock.

“Along with other community partners, Winthrop is particularly delighted to see Comporium deploying this as a tangible catalyst for growth in Rock Hill’s knowledge economy,” added Comstock. “The opportunity for academic and business collaboration is phenomenal.”
