City ChristmasVille Celebration Features Several Spirited Winthrop Events

ROCK HILL, S.C. — The city of Rock Hill’s annual ChristmasVille kicks off this week. The multi-day celebration will feature several special Winthrop University-related events, including the Winthrop Christmas Tree Lighting and a performance by the York County Choral Society.

The Lighting of the Village – Opening Ceremonies
Dec. 5, 7-7:45 p.m.
Main Street at Elk Avenue
The theme of this year’s opening ceremonies is “Believe in the Magic.” The event will feature a performance from the Winthrop ChristmasVille Rockhettes. (Relocated to Freedom Center Gym on Caldwell St. in case of severe weather.)

The 24th Annual Winthrop University Holiday Pottery Sale
Dec. 6, noon-6 p.m.
G-10 Rutledge Building
The Department of Fine Arts faculty and advanced pottery students show off their functional and decorative pottery, which will be on sale. This is a perfect way to get all of your holiday shopping done in one trip. Only cash and/or checks are accepted.

Lighting of the Winthrop University Christmas Tree
Dec. 6, 6 p.m.
Front Lawn of Tillman Hall
The lighting of the tree became an official event in 1969 and is now a beloved tradition of ChristmasVille. Winthrop President Jayne Marie (Jamie) Comstock will assist with the tree lighting, and the Winthrop ChristmasVille RockHettes will perform. Free cider and hot cocoa will be available at the event. Hosted by Winthrop University Student Alumni Council. (Cancelled for steady rain or severe weather.)

Historic Old Town Trolley Tours
Dec. 7, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Main Street
This guided tour highlights Old Town Rock Hill, including Winthrop University. The trolley will leave every half hour from the Main Street/Elk Avenue border.

York County Choral Society Holiday Concert
Dec. 8, 4 p.m.
Byrnes Auditorium
The York County Choral Society, under the direction of Winthrop Professor of Music Katherine Kinsey, will bring your favorite holiday music alive with this special concert. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and
Winthrop faculty and staff, $5 for students and free for Winthrop students with an ID. Tickets are available online or at the door: www.yorkcountychoralsociety.org/index.htm.

ChristmasVille Grand Finale
Dec. 8, 5-5:45 p.m.
Stage at Main Street near 113 E. Main Street
This lively finale will feature dancing by the Winthrop ChristmasVille RockHettes and the York County Ballet, followed by a fireworks show. (Relocated to Freedom Center Gym on Caldwell Street in case of severe weather. Fireworks will be cancelled in case of severe weather.)
