ROCK HILL, S.C. — Former S.C. Superintendent of Education Jim Rex will visit Winthrop University on Monday, Nov. 11, to talk about the United States’ two-party political system and how to possibly add a third party.

“What is Wrong with the Two-Party System in America?” will begin at 3:30 p.m. in G01 Owens Hall. It is an approved cultural event. The lecture is sponsored by the Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society, the Department of Political Science and the John C. West Forum on Politics and Policy and is being held in conjunction with the Council of Student Leaders’ voter education fair.

Prior to becoming the state’s education superintendent, Rex was formerly dean of the Richard W. Riley College of Education and a gubernatorial candidate in 2010. The James and Susan Rex Institute for Educational Renewal and Partnership in the College of Education was named after him and his wife, Sue Smith-Rex, a retired Winthrop faculty member and a member of the Board of Trustees.
