Roll Out the Red Carpet at the 2013 Homecoming and Alumni Reunion Celebration

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Winthrop University will roll out the red carpet for the 2013 Homecoming and Alumni Reunion Celebration: this year’s theme is “All That Glitters is Garnet and Gold.”

Spirited celebrations, camaraderie, and fun and games are sure to be a highlight for the campus and surrounding community as well as returning alumni from Nov. 8-10.

Friday, Nov. 8
Trolley Tours – See the campus while taking a pleasant trolley ride. Meets at Tillman Hall. Rides run from 1-5 p.m., with the last trolley leaving at 4:15 p.m.

Campus Green Bash and Pep Rally — Show off your school pride by smashing a car for a good cause with the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. You can also get pumped for the games by creating gear such as T-shirts and posters. Campus Green. Rain location: West Center. 3 p.m.

Volleyball vs. Gardner-WebbWinthrop Coliseum. 7 p.m.

Winthrop Dance Theatre Concert — More than 30 current students will dance to pieces choreographed by Department of Theatre and Dance faculty. Johnson Theatre. 8 p.m. Tickets are $8 with a Winthrop ID, $15 without. Special senior adult prices are available by inquiring at the box office. Also showing at 8 p.m. Nov. 9 and 2 p.m. Nov. 10.

Homecoming Party – Join students, alumni, faculty and staff for this huge party, which will feature a DJ, free food, prizes, a cash bar, photo booth and a caricature artist. Rosalind and Jerry Richardson Ballroom in the DiGiorgio Campus Center, 9 p.m. Free.

Saturday, Nov. 9
Tailgating – Bring a blanket or pitch your tailgating tent and enjoy music, food and fun before the volleyball and basketball games. Stop by the alumni tent to enjoy Chick-Fil-A sandwiches provided by the Winthrop Alumni Association. Head over to the Kids’ Zone to find games, activities and bouncy houses provided by Baptist Campus Ministries. Coliseum parking lots, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Pets must be leashed.

Volleyball vs. UNC Asheville – Winthrop Coliseum, 1 p.m.

Men’s Basketball vs. Roanoke College —The Eagles will fight a fierce battle against Roanoke for the season’s home-opener. The 2013 Homecoming King and Queen will be announced during halftime. Winthrop Coliseum. 4 p.m.

Homecoming Stroll Competition — Don’t wait to get your tickets for this exciting new event hosted by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Byrnes Auditorium. Doors open at 7:13 p.m. Show time is 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance or $12 at the door.

Sunday, Nov. 10
Women’s Basketball vs. College of Charleston — It’s the women’s turn to dominate the court on Sunday as they face rival College of Charleston. Winthrop Coliseum. 2 p.m.

Other exciting events throughout the week include themed spirit days; the student talent show at 8 p.m. Nov. 6 in Tillman Auditorium; casino night at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 in the West Center; and a prize-filled dinner from 4-7 p.m. Nov. 7 at Thomson Dining Center.

Be sure to wear garnet and gold on Friday, Nov. 9, to kick off the Homecoming and Alumni Reunion Celebration weekend.
