Junior Biology Student Remembered for Her Talents and Love of Dance

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Abigail “Abby” Carroll, a junior from Walhalla, S.C., majoring in biology, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 31.

Born Sept. 4, 1992, Carroll maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA in Winthrop’s Honors Program. She spent time studying abroad in Australia, and she also served as a Peer Mentor, a tutor for student-athletes, a member of the Council of Student Leaders, and president of Winthrop’s chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Winthrop students and administrators remembered the 21-year-old fondly, as someone bright, talented, and who also loved to dance. “Abby was truly our best and brightest who enriched our campus in so many ways while we were blessed to have her with us,” said Vice President for Student Life Frank Ardaiolo.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3 at the Davenport Funeral Home, 311 South Hwy 11 in West Union, S.C. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
