Paws and Claws Event to Raise Money for Athletic Scholarships

ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Winthrop Coliseum is “going to the dogs” at this weekend’s Paws and Claws event.

The Oct. 26 event will provide an opportunity for those in attendance to meet Winthrop President Jayne Marie (Jamie) Comstock, her husband, Larry Williamson, and their Chesapeake Bay retriever, Cocoa. Participants also will be able to meet Winthrop coaches from a variety of sports.

Each owner with a registered dog will receive a “goody bag,” a T-shirt and a bandana for his or her pet. Activities include a Best Eagle Fan dog contest, a best dog costume contest, a pet and owner lookalike contest, K-9 demonstrations, vendors and more. Adoptable pets will be available.

Funds raised from Paws and Claws will go toward athletic scholarships. Participants also will have the opportunity to join the Eagle Club, Winthrop’s athletic booster club.

Registration for the event begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Coliseum. Events begin at 9 a.m. Dog owners and dog lovers can register in advance on the Winthrop Eagles website for $20; the registration cost is $25 on the day of the event. There is a charge of $10 for each additional dog.
