Trick Or Treat: Halloween Events Sure to Terrify the Campus


ROCK HILL, S.C. — Horror films, pumpkin carving and the annual “fiend fest” highlight this year’s Halloween-related events at Winthrop University.

Halloween falls on Thursday, Oct. 31, this year but there is plenty of scary fun before then:

• Video Production Club’s Classic Horror Night
Oct. 21, 8 p.m., Dina’s Place
Brush up on your Vincent Price impression with a free showing of House on Haunted Hill. The film is about a group of strangers lured to a mansion, where a millionaire has promised them money if they stay locked in there for an entire night. Free.

• Spooky Spike It!
Oct. 23, 7:30 p.m., West Center
The Student Advisory Board will hold a volleyball tournament to raise money for the Mass Communication Department. $1.

• Boo-Grams
Oct. 24, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., DiGiorgio Campus Center Main Lobby
Say what you need to say via a boo-gram and help out a philanthropy, Project Rescue.

• A Night of Fright at SCarowinds
Oct. 25, 8 p.m., Carowinds Amusement Park
Winthrop DSU will go as a group to SCarowinds and invites all to join. Space is limited and is a on first-come, first-serve basis. Cost includes entrance, T-shirt and round-trip transportation. Cost $30.

• Eagle Flicks: The Conjuring
Oct. 26, 7 p.m., Dina’s Place
A family that is terrorized by ghosts in their farmhouse is assisted by paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

• Pumpkin Carving
Oct. 29, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Scholars Walk
A Winthrop tradition returns: carve your very own pumpkin! Free.

• Halloween Happenings
Oct. 29, 5-8 p.m., Student Activity Center Gym
It’s all about the treats at this event for families and students. Younger students from the community will trick-or-treat in assigned residence halls, escorted by Winthrop organizations, and play games and activities at the SAC.

• Student Alumni Council’s Ghost Tours
Oct. 29, 7:30 p.m., Amphitheatre
All are invited to tour parts of Winthrop’s campus and hear the ghostly tales and rumors behind some buildings. $2 with Winthrop ID, $5 without.

• Ensemble Series: Pandora’s Music Box
Oct. 30, 7:30 p.m., Byrnes Auditorium
Director Jill O’Neill leads the flute choir and arts lab in a chilling performance. Free cultural event.

• GLoBAL Fiend Fest
Oct. 30, 8-11 p.m., the Shack
Dress your best for GLoBAL’s annual Halloween party and express yourself through dance and costumes. Free.

• English Majors Trick-or-Treat
Oct. 31, 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m., Bancroft Hall
Costumes are optional as English majors are invited to trick or treat on the second floor of Bancroft Hall.

• Special Event: Pipes, Pedals & Pumpkins
Oct. 31, 11:30 p.m.-1 a.m., Byrnes Auditorium
The pipe organs come alive on this chilly night with a special Halloween performance. The audience is encouraged to come in costumes! Free cultural event. There will also be a pumpkin-carving contest. E-mail music@winthrop.edu for more information.
