Sue Lyman Recognized by City of Rock Hill at Volunteer Appreciation Dinner

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Sue Lyman, director of the graduate social work program at Winthrop University, received the David Boone Advisory Award at the Rock Hill annual volunteer appreciation dinner on May 23.

This award is given annually to a person dedicated to providing volunteer service to a commission or advisory committee serving Rock Hill City Parks, Recreation and Tourism. Lyman has served on the Commission for Children and Youth for the past 12 years and has been involved in multiple initiatives that promote the health and welfare of children and families.

She participated with other commissioners to bring the “Is it good for the Children?” campaign to Rock Hill. As part of her ongoing work with this campaign, Lyman was involved in the selection and awarding of the “Champion for Children Award.”

Lyman has also been active in the commission’s campaigns on increasing awareness of childhood obesity improving childhood mental health. Earlier this spring she received the Social Worker of the Year Award from the South Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. Giving back to her personal and professional community through volunteering her time and expertise is clearly “Good for the Children.”
