Seventeen Students Selected as Summer WISE Interns

 The WISE program, now in its third year, is funded by the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program.

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Seventeen Winthrop University students have been chosen as Winthrop Initiative for STEM Educators (WISE) summer interns.

The students are:

• Tyra Douglas (Rock Hill, S.C.)
• Gabrielle Epelle (Charlotte, N.C.)
• Danielle Gasparik (Sebastian, Fla.)
• Shiannea Gathers (Eutawville, S.C.)
• Katja Hall (Vienna, Va.)
• Lisa Howard (Lamar, S.C.)
• Lynnique Johnson (Lake Wylie, S.C.)
• Lauren Lintz (Florence, S.C.)
• Alesha Love (Columbia, S.C.)
• Olivia Manley (Rock Hill, S.C.)
• Diamond Melendez (Spartanburg, S.C.)
• Allison Riffe (Charleston, S.C.)
• Abigail Roush (North Chesterfield, Va.)
• Shanythia Thomas (Aiken, S.C.)
• David Walker (Tega Cay, S.C.)
• Jessica Zinna (Lexington, S.C.)

From now until May 24, the students will explore topics in STEM research and education areas, visit local resources and volunteer in local schools while working with faculty including Nick Grossoehme, Trent Kull, Lisa Hudson-Lucas, Linda Pickett, Jane Wilkes, Janice Chism, Kelly Costner, Victoria Frost and Cassandra Bell. The program is designed to show the students opportunities in the field and to encourage them to be leaders and learners for a lifetime.
