New York Times Touts Cece Stewart ’93 as One of Top Women on Wall Street

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Cecelia "Cece" Stewart '93, president, U.S. consumer and commercial banking for Citigroup, is one of the top women on Wall Street, according to a recent article in The New York Times.

Stewart, who has more than 30 years of experience in the consumer banking industry, has served in her current position with Citigroup since September 2010. As president of U.S. consumer and commercial banking, she focuses on increasing profits at the retail bank. Stewart recently joined the board of U.S. Cellular, and she is a member of the Winthrop University Foundation Board.

In both 2006 and 2007, Fortune Magazine named Stewart one of the Top 50 Women in Business.

The alumna served previously as president of the Retail Banking Group and CEO at Morgan Stanley Private Bank, N.A. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Stewart held a number of senior banking positions at Wachovia; she served as executive vice president and head of the retail and small business bank from 2003-2008. During her tenure at Wachovia, Stewart’s work led to Wachovia’s consistent ranking as a leader in customer satisfaction and retention.

Stewart attended the University of South Carolina and earned an Executive M.B.A. degree at Winthrop. An avid Winthrop supporter, she established the Cecelia Stewart Endowed Scholarship in 2011 to provide scholarship funds for business majors. In addition, two conjoining classrooms on the second floor of Winthrop's Carroll Hall were named the Stewart and Dickson Classrooms, honoring Stewart's family histories.
