25th Annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition to Open in Galleries

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Winthrop University alumnus and curator for the S.C. State Museum Paul Matheny ’96, ’11 will be the official juror for the 25th annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition, which will show in the Rutledge Gallery from April 8-June 14.

The exhibition showcases the talents of Winthrop’s fine arts and design students from a variety of disciplines. An opening reception for the juried exhibition is set for Friday, April 5, at 6:30 p.m. in the Rutledge and Elizabeth Dunlap Patrick galleries.

Matheny earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Arts in Arts Administration from Winthrop. While in school he worked with the city of Rock Hill’s Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department to exhibit local arts in city-wide art spaces before moving on to the Museum of York County. He has served as chief curator art at the state museum since 2002, where he has exhibited more than 700 artists and completed more than 20 major art exhibitions.

The opening reception will also celebrate M.F.A. Thesis Exhibitions by art and design majors Janet Lasher and Jonathan Hoffman. A separate opening reception is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 26 for fellow candidates Bridget Kirkland and Lino Azevedo. All four exhibits will show in the Elizabeth Dunlap Patrick Gallery.

• “Unintentional Development,” Janet Lasher; artist talk April 9 at 8 p.m. in 119 Rutledge
• “We’re Not Hanging That in the Living Room,” Jonathan Hoffman; artist talk April 11 at 8 p.m. in Elizabeth Dunlap Patrick Gallery

April 22-May 3

• “Whaddya Say Jim,” Bridget Kirkland; artist talk April 22 at 8 p.m. in 119 Rutledge
• “XPLOITISM,” Lino Azevedo; artist talk April 30 at 11 a.m. in Elizabeth Dunlap Patrick Gallery

Gallery events for the rest of the semester include three B.F.A. senior exhibitions between March 25-April 19 and the senior interior design exhibition April 29-May 3, both in the Lewandowski Student Gallery.
