S.C. Theatre Association Taps Gundersheim as Outstanding Educator of the Year

NEWBERRY, S.C. — The South Carolina Theatre Association has named Winthrop University Theatre Professor Stephen Gundersheim its 2012 Outstanding Educator of the Year.

The award was presented to Gundersheim during the association's convention on Nov. 4.

Gundersheim teaches a variety of theatre and theatre education courses at Winthrop and has directed numerous theatre productions since coming to the university in 2006. He is currently in rehearsal for the musical, "Hairspray," which performs in February.

“Stephen is most deserving of this prestigious award,” said David Wohl, dean of Winthrop’s College of Visual and Performing Arts. “He continues to inspire our students with his tremendous energy and enthusiasm and exemplifies the department’s goal of providing opportunities for them to develop significant competencies in the field of theatre arts. We are all very proud of his accomplishments.”

The South Carolina Theatre Association is a statewide organization comprised of professional, community, and academic actors, directors, theater administrators and educators from primary and secondary schools and colleges.
