BreakSk8
ROCK HILL, S.C. — The group
BreakSk8
flips, twirls and busts innovative dance moves in its high-powered routines—all on roller skates.
Now the break-dancing group will bring its talents to Winthrop University Friday night with a performance at 8 p.m. in
Tillman Auditorium.
BreakSk8
formed in 2000 by session skaters in an Indiana skating rink. Bored with simply skating around the same rink, the group began traveling to rinks across the country and showing its skills. BreakSk8’s first official show was in Orangeburg, S.C., and the group has since performed at home games for the National Basketball Association’s Indiana Pacers and made appearances on
“America’s Got Talent”
and
MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew.”
More recently, the group toured with singer
Mariah Carey
and embarked upon its own world tour.
“BreakSk8 is the biggest show outside of
Welcome Week
that DSU has ever brought,” said Tevin Brown, special events chair for the
DiGiorgio Student Union (DSU)
. “It will be a show that will keep the audience entertained from start to finish. The more people in the audience, the better the energy for the crew.”
Tickets are $5 with a Winthrop ID, $10 to the public or free with a DSU Fall 2012 pass.
It is a cultural event
