ROCK HILL, S.C. – York County Council District Six candidates Britt Blackwell and Gary Williams will face off Thursday, Sept. 27 at Winthrop University.
The debate starts at 6:30 p.m. at Dina's Place in the DiGiorgio Campus Center. The candidates will discuss issues facing York County and provide their vision of York County's future. Mark Herring, dean of Dacus Library will moderate.
The event, sponsored by the John C. West Forum on Politics and Policy, is free and open to the public.
A Rock Hill native, Dr. Blackwell is an optometrist. He served on the Rock Hill school board for eight years before being appointed to the S.C. State Board of Education from 2007 to 2010. He was elected to the York County Council in November 2010 and is its chairman.
Williams, who is a petition candidate, has been involved in student loan management since 1978. Founded in 1986, Williams & Fudge is today one of the leaders in the student loan collection industry. Locally, he has served on the Rock Hill school board, has assisted the community through the Boy Scouts, the Museum of York County and York County Community Foundation and is president of the Winthrop University Foundation Board of Directors.
