New Executive Director Named for South Carolina Campus Compact

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Anthony J. DiGiorgio, president of Winthrop University and chairman of the Presidents’ Council for the South Carolina Campus Compact, announced this week the appointment of Jessica K. Lynn as the new executive director of the South Carolina Campus Compact. She will assume her duties on Aug. 1.

A resident of York, S.C., Lynn has served as executive director of The Haven Men’s Shelter since 2009. Previously, she worked with A Place for Hope as a community support coordinator and Catawba Care where she worked to evaluate the needs of those living with AIDS/HIV. She has additional experience with the Center for Social Welfare Research and Assessment in completing participatory action research to develop leadership and community engagement with young people in the upstate of South Carolina.

“We are pleased that Ms. Lynn’s professional experience and career goals align with the mission of South Carolina Campus Compact to be the leader in service-learning training and resource development in our state so that higher education institutions can graduate fully engaged citizens,” stated Dr. DiGiorgio. “Ms. Lynn’s commitment to service will ensure our continued forward momentum as we build the infrastructure for civic engagement and leadership in our state.”

Lynn holds a B.A. from Furman University and a Master’s in Social Work from Winthrop University. While working in Shanghai, China, where she taught English as a second language, she also completed extended studies at East China Normal University.

By incorporating service learning and civic engagement into campus culture, students are learning valuable life lessons in leadership, decision-making and civic responsibility.

South Carolina Campus Compact is a higher education-based membership organization, located and hosted by Winthrop University and works with university administrators, staff and faculty at 17-member institutions across the state to develop both curricular and co-curricular service learning and civic engagement activities in the classroom. As part of a national network representing more than 1,200 higher education presidents and six million college students, South Carolina Campus Compact is leveraging every resource possible to grow the impact of service learning in the Palmetto State.
