Spring One-Act Festival Runs April 19-21 at Winthrop

 Winthrop University’s Department of Theatre and Dance will present the annual Spring One-Act Festival April 19-21.
 The festival is the culmination of student work in the class THRA 431: Directing II, and all plays are student directed and designed.
 All performances will be held in Johnson Studio Theatre.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop University’s Department of Theatre and Dance will present the annual Spring One-Act Festival April 19-21.

The festival is the culmination of student work in the class THRA 431: Directing II, and all plays are student directed and designed. The plays, divided into Groups A and B, will be performed separately. Performances of Group A's four plays will be April 19 at 8 p.m. and April 20 at 2 p.m. Group B plays will be performed April 20 at 8 p.m. and April 21 at 2 p.m. All performances will be held in Johnson Studio Theatre.

Since spring 1955, when the Department of Theatre and Dance began doing one-act plays, the department has presented more than 600 one-act productions. The popularity of the spring festival prompted the creation of the Fall One-Act Festival.

The lineup will include the following eight plays:

Group A

“Variations on the Death of Trotsky” by David Ives
Directed by Tyra Moody (Simpsonville, S.C.)

“The Philadelphia” by David Ives
Directed by Briana Parks (Kershaw, S.C.)

“The Disruptive, Discursive, Delusions of Donald” by Michael Roderick
Directed by Mary Shockley (Rock Hill)

“The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon” by Don Zolidis
Directed by Allison Zobel (Summerville, S.C.)

Group B

“The Education of Macoloco” by Jen Silverman
Directed by Morgan Alber (North Charleston, S.C.)

“Summer at the Lake” by Tennessee Williams
Directed by Philip Calabro (Greer, S.C.)

“Blind Date” by Horton Foote
Directed by Sarah Gunter (Landrum, S.C.)

“Drugs are Bad” by Jonathan Rand
Directed by Haley Phillips (Anderson, S.C.)

The Spring One-Act Festival is part of Rock Hill's 49th annual Come-See-Me Festival. Seating is limited, and no late seating will be permitted after performances begin. Plays contain adult language and situations.
