ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop University Galleries and Winthrop’s College of Visual and Performing Arts will host a variety of exhibitions and hands-on events during April.

The "B.F.A. Senior Undergraduate Exhibition," housed in Rutledge Gallery, opens April 16 and continues through May 4. The exhibition provides an opportunity for B.F.A. students to gain exhibition experience in a larger gallery setting.

Also opening April 16 will be Jessica Reynolds’ M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition, the first of two candidates presenting their work in the Elizabeth Dunlap Patrick Gallery. Reynolds’ work deals with color as a form of emotional response and order and will be on display through April 23. The free opening reception for both Reynolds’ thesis exhibition and the “B.F.A. Senior Undergraduate Exhibition” will be April 20 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The second M.F.A. candidate to show work in the Elizabeth Dunlap Patrick Gallery will be Stephen Lursen. His work addresses decision-making and the experiences of living with consequences of our decisions. Lursen’s M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition will open April 26 and run through May 4. There will be a free closing reception for this exhibition Friday, May 4, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Both Reynolds and Lursen will be giving lectures on their work as well. Reynolds will speak Thursday, April 19, in the Elizabeth Dunlap Patrick Gallery at 8 p.m. Lursen’s talk will be Thursday, April 26, at 8 p.m. in 119 Rutledge Building.

In addition to the opening reception on April 20, the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) is hosting an Arts Crawl. Each department within the college is preparing to open its doors from noon until 5 p.m. and allow the public to experience first-hand the processes artists use in creating art. In addition, the Department of Fine Arts will host “24 Hours of Art” as part of the CVPA Arts Crawl. Student and faculty studios will be open, and other exhibitions and activities will be occurring in and around McLaurin Hall and the Rutledge Building with an award being given for the Best Studio, Visual Display, or Activity.

Ending the semester in the Lewandowski Student Gallery will be the "Senior Interior Design Student Exhibition," a collection of work by interior design majors. This exhibition will run through May 4.

All events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and closed on weekends.
