ROCK HILL, S.C. - The second annual Global Learning Initiative (GLI) Games will recognize the role international students play in the Winthrop Athletics program from 11 a.m.-noon on Tuesday, Nov. 8 on the Campus Green.
There will be guest appearances by Big Stuff, international students-athletes and several Winthrop coaches.
Other activities include a re-match of a tug-of-war between student athletes and faculty/staff. The student athletes beat the faculty/staff team last year.
Participants also may compete in disc toss and a running of the gauntlet, sample international foods and check out displays by student organization with international ties. Prizes and free GLI discs will be given out.
“The GLI Games give the campus the opportunity to recognize the contributions of other cultures across our campus from food to customs to chances to build friendships. It’s like our mini-Olympics," said Karen Kedrowski, GLI director and chair of the Department of Political Science.
The event is co-sponsored by the Global Learning Initiative and the Office of Alumni Relations.
In case of rain, activities will be held in the Community Concourse, between the West Center and the DiGiorgio Campus Center.
