U.S. Disc Golf Championship Starts This Week at Winthrop's Course

 Spectator Day will be held on Sunday, Oct. 9. On this day, USDGC friends and family are invited to come out and play the Winthrop Gold Course in actual championship conditions.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop University’s disc golf course will host the 2011 U.S. Disc Golf Championship, Oct. 5-8. There are 125 players registered for the event.

The USDGC begins a four-day schedule of competition on Oct. 5. This will be the 13th consecutive year this prestigious event has been held at Winthrop. This year, former champions Dave Feldberg, Barry Schultz, Ken Climo and Avery Jenkins will each host an INNOVA Champions Clinic each afternoon to share their skills and tips.

Spectator Day will be held on Sunday, Oct. 9. On this day, USDGC friends and family are invited to come out and play the Winthrop Gold Course in actual championship conditions. Tickets are not required for this event; however, a $10 minimum donation supporting Habitat for Humanity is requested. To secure a tee time for this day, please register online.

This year, no tickets are required to attend any USDGC event.

The Winthrop disc golf course has seen lots of action this fall. The course also hosted Oct. 1-2 the 2011 U.S. Doubles Championship featuring an all-amateur field.

Two-time former world disc golf champion and Rock Hill resident Harold Duvall developed Winthrop’s disc golf course in 1991. The Winthrop Gold Course has been the site of the championship since its inception in 1999.
