New Bequest to Create Scholarship for Aspiring Educators

ROCK HILL, S.C. - A bequest to Winthrop University will fund a new scholarship for students in Winthrop’s Richard W. Riley College of Education. The Diane Norris, Thelma Cox, and Nell Eleazer Scholarship will be funded by a gift from the estate of Diane P. Norris, Winthrop Class of 1971.

The legacy gift honors Norris’s ties to her alma mater and is also given in memory of Thelma Cox and in honor of Nell Eleazer, both of whom have “provided love, support, and encouragement” throughout Norris’s life.

Norris hopes that students who receive this scholarship will carry on the significant legacy of education in their careers, saying “The thoroughness of Education is compelling; may this gift be honored by those who truly want to take on its challenges.”
