ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Winthrop University Alumni Association welcomed a new president, Kristen Gebhart Magee, on July 1.

“We appreciate Kristen’s continued service and enthusiasm to the alumni association. She is the perfect person to keep Winthrop alumni informed and excited about their alma mater,” said Debbie Garrick, executive director of the Office of Alumni Relations.

Magee, a Greenville, S.C., resident, replaces Tim Hopkins who was recently appointed to the Winthrop Board of Trustees as a designee for S.C. Governor Nikki Haley.

She is an area business specialist with Janssen Biotech, Inc., a division of Johnson and Johnson. While at Winthrop, Magee was a member of the softball team and has stayed active with her alma mater, serving as second vice president and secretary of the Alumni Association and chairing both the Young Alumni Council and Association Restructure Task Force. She received the Outstanding Young Alumni Award in 2001.

Magee received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Winthrop in 1995 and an M.B.A. from Clemson University in 2000. Her husband, Jim, is an engineer with Kemet Electronics, and the couple has two sons, Alex and Thomas.

The Alumni Association will host a reception welcoming Magee in her new role on Aug. 28 at Fluor Field in Greenville. Visit the Alumni Office's website to register for the event or call 803/323-2145.
